The SIGGRAPH is the annual conference of computer graphics most important of the world where converge the art and the science. This conference it's performed since the year 1974 and in this post I'm going to present the science papers, animations and inventions that more have attracted my attention of the SIGGRAPH of this year that ended in July.

This year the SIGGRAPH have met more than 22.000 artist, scientist, students, program developers and filmmakers. At first place here you have the presentation video of the event:

-Scientific papers:

- Motion capture:

Seeing the works of this year, have call my attention a paper showed by the Phd student Xialin Wei and the Phd Jianxian, called "VideoMocap: Modeling Physically Realistic Human Motion from Monocular Video Sequences", where expose a motion capture system that only use one camera. Until now was necessary fill the body of the actor with sensors and record then over a green background. In the following video you can see how work this system.

As you can see in the video the results haven't nothing to envy to the motion capture system with sensors, although require mark by hand, in several key frames, the points that form the skeleton of the person but in future systems this could let to be necessary.

This technique will allow that perform of 3D animations with realistic movements will be a lot of more cheaper and accessible.

- Particle systems:

This is a paper called "A practical Simulation of Dispersed Bubble Flow", where, with a particle system of bubbles, achieve effervescent effects that not have nothing to envy to the effects that generates a pastille of the real world.

-New technologies:

- 3D cylindrical monitor:

Sony have presented a cylindrical screen that allow see 3D objects:

- Haptic interfaces:

Is interesting also the haptic interfaces (stimulate our sense of touch). Between them, a paint palette which you can sense how you wet your finger in the paint and rubs on the picture. This kind of interface needs that we have a finger inside of a device.

In other of these haptic interfaces, with the help of a glove, we can sense three sensations on our hands (stickiness, hardness or roughness), depending of what we touch on the screen.

- Festival of computer graphics:

The winner animations in several categories have been "Loom", "Poppy" y "The Wonder Hospital", although are not my favourite ones. The best is that you see all and you decide by yourself which one is your preferred one. In the following link you can see a lot of them. When an animation finish, the next one is played automatically, or if you want you can select the following from the panel that appears down.
